For studio i had to research a sculpture artist named Alberto Giacometti. He life span was 1901-1966. He was a swiss artist studying "surrealism." The sculpture i researched was Hands Holding the Void "The Invincible." It is a five foot high bronze sculpture displaying a egyptian like women on a thrown. He created the figure using lone slender forms. The head was created after the finsih protection coat was put on, allowing it to de-form over time. There is a plate at her shinns almost holding her but also restricting her from movement. Looking at her hands you feel as though she is holding or offering something. The sculpture relates to the egyptian KA. Looking into exotic & archaic art he attempted to grasp the KA of the egyptians, the "shaded soul." (The Invincible) The "Void" holds a presence and his aim was to graph it and hold it captive. This work became a proment piece for my project helping me better understand my landscape.
